Building Department

The primary function of the Building Department is the enforcement of the State of Ohio Building Codes. These standards serve to protect the health, safety and welfare of the general public.

The Building Department is responsible for inspection services and issuing building permits, which are required for residential building construction. Permits must be pulled for accessory structures such as decks, pools, patios, storage barns, siding, etc. See available forms and permits for download, or they can be obtained at the Village Office.

Garage Sales

This is a reminder to all residents that Ordinance 1-90.20 regulates
the frequency and number of “garage sales” permitted in the
Village and establishes that you must be registered to hold such
a sale inside the Village of Hartville. The Ordinance also sets up
the rules by which the “garage sale” may be operated.

The Ordinance also regulates the placement of signs advertising the

sale and prohibits the placing of signs on private property without

the owner’s consent. State Law also prohibits attaching any signs

to public utility poles or street signs or placing a sign in the public

right of way in such a manner as to obstruct the view of persons

using the highways.

The Hartville Police are authorized to remove illegally posted signs

and can cite persons posting such signs. It is also illegal for persons

holding garage sales outside the Village of Hartville to post signs

advertising their sale on utility poles or street signs inside the Village

Corporate Limits and allows the police department to enforce that

law.
