A Message From Our Chief
Hartville is a jewel of a community with great potential. We have a low (1%) income tax and a great school district. We are close to everything important in Northeastern Ohio, and yet we are a quiet community of neighborhoods where kids can play safely and the everyday pace is rewardingly slow. We are famous for great food, great shopping and a very safe environment. Our crime rate is low due to the quality of people who live here and the quality of the police officers who work here.
I was appointed as Chief of Police on December 2, 2009, and I am proud to lead, train and mentor the very professional police officers of Hartville, Ohio. Our focus brings enhanced training and equipment which will result in improved crime detecting and crime solving abilities.
We are a community on the rise with crime on the decline, and my promise to the community and all of those who pass through or stop by is simply this:
"We will work hard to prevent crime and to bring those who break the law within our community to justice. We will be kind, courteous, and professional while we strive to live up to the highest standards of complete law enforcement service and protection of Hartville, Ohio."

MAKING A COMPLAINT
Steps to filing a citizen complaint:
1. The Hartville Police Department is committed to the highest standards of integrity and proper behavior. Our overall goal is to develop trusts with the community that will increase the quality of life for residents and visitors of the Village of Hartville. We also understand that there may be times when we did not live up to those expectations. If you believe the conduct of an officer is inappropriate, please consider one of the following options, please:
- Come to the Police Department, 202 W. Maple Street, and advise anyone in the office that you want to file a complaint, or request a supervisor, or
- Call the police Department, 330-877-2630 and tell the person answering the telephone that you want to file a complaint, or
- Write your complaint out by downloading the Citizen Complaint Forms located online and mailing it to: Chief of Police, Larry Dordea, Hartville Police Department, 202 W. Maple Street, Hartville, 44632.
2. Any Hartville Police Officer will assist you in completing a complaint. You will be asked to identify yourself and then give specific details about your complaint.
3. Your complaint will then be investigated. Please keep in mind that you may be contacted and asked for additional information about your complaint.
4. Once your complaint has been investigated, the Chief of Police will review the investigation and write you a letter explaining the results.
Hartville's K-9 Unit
The Hartville Police Department's K-9 Unit was first established in May of 2016. The K-9 Unit will provide a number of support services to the agency's mission.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Over the years, the Hartville Police Department has received many calls from community members with questions about police procedures or just general questions about certain Hartville Police Department activities. This section answers the most frequently asked questions.
Q. How can I file a police report?
A. The Hartville Police Department is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can come to the Village office and request to see an officer, or you can call 330.877.2500 to have an officer meet with you at the Police Department.
Q. How do I obtain a copy of a report?
A. The Village office is open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with the exception of some holidays. Upon requesting a report, please have the following information available: date, time, location, persons, and type of incident. Officers need as least 5 to 7 days from the time of the incident, in order to process the report.
Q. How can I get a Restraining Order?
A. Criminal Protection Orders (alleged domestic violence, assault, stalking, or aggravated trespass at the hands of a family or household member), you will want to call the Law Department at 330.438.3251 or contact a Police Officer at 330.877.2500 for further information.
For Civil Protection Orders (victim who seeks an order against his or her spouse), can be filed in the Domestic Relations Court or obtained by an Attorney. The plaintiff will need to give a copy of the restraining order as well as the proof of service to the police department where he/she lives and/or works. The document is not valid without a Court Case Number, the Court Stamp, and the Date and Signature of the Judge.
Q. Is there a noise ordinance in Hartville?
A. It is not permitted to make any unreasonably loud or disturbing noise (i.e. loud music, barking dogs, etc) of such intensity as to disturb the neighbors. If the Police are called to a property, on a noise complaint, they can issue a citation.
Q. If my car is towed by the Hartville Police Department, how do I get it back?
A. Hartville Police Department Impound Lot.
Q. Where can I get fingerprinted?
A. Hartville Police Department provides ink fingerprinting only, to citizens that live or work in the Village limits. The individual must provide the department with a card from their employer. The department does not have the ability to do the electronic fingerprinting at this time.
The individual may call for an appointment or come into the Village Office and ask to see if an officer is available. The citizen must provide the card to be used for the fingerprinting process.
Q. Do I have to keep my dog on a leash?
A. Yes. Dogs are not allowed to run at large. The OBC 90.01 and ORC 951.01 prohibits dogs or other animals running at large.
